- very calming
- love the huge mostly glass shower w/bench
- possibly could’ve made it a walk-in shower - reminder that there will always be more than one option!
- sink
- raised cabinet allows for additional tower storage, great use of vertical space
- wall-mounted faucet
- cabinets - from IKEA? - like the contrast of the black against all the blue and white
- unique toilet
- lights
- mosaic tile - pretty, but I worry that it will be “so 2010” in a few years
- tile on back wall of shower repeated in band on sink wall
Good color scheme here. One thing I think that’s overlooked is the good ventilation action going on the ceiling. It’s so gross when everything in the bathroom gets covered with a little grime due to the humidity that gets trapped in there.
There’s an interesting window on the wall behind the toilet too. Perhaps an escape hatch for your guests for when the toilet doesn’t flush after a #2.
Top Bathroom Trends for 2011

Freestanding and Angled Tubs
The luxury of filling your tub with water and rose petals while basking in the glow of tea lights and smell of incense that sits upon the rim of the tub.. I can definitely see the gigantic freestanding oval tubs being the hotness to have, but how many people actually own bathrooms this large? Although the home spa is highly desirable, it’s not often achieved. There’s something lacking in this bathroom design that makes it feel shallow. It’s more of a display case than a bathroom. I do enjoy the fact that you can take a bath and casually walk to your bed while completely naked.

Natural Elements
This bathroom on the other hand is more reasonable and realistic. Full frameless shower doors are awesome and the embedded river rocks really make for an eye-catching visual effect. Although pointless, I also like that antler-like sculpture on the side. Now if only the shower had more shower heads for that ultimate shower experience.

Unique Modern Furniture: The Louis Ghost Armchair
(Source: avotakka.fl)
I see this chair often in women’s personal spaces or in certain clothing designer stores. It’s called a Louis Ghost Armchair. Made out of injection-molded polycarbonate, it is nearly indestructible and resistant to scratches and weather. It not only looks good, but it’s comfortable too (if you’re not a very large person). The real deal from is made in Italy by Kartell and goes for $410, but you can pick up an acrylic version (not ultra-durable or scratch-resistant) for about $120. They go well in the dining room as well. Just pair with a glass or polished black table and you’ll have an instant modern look in your house or apartment.

Yet Another Tiny Apartment (Lego-style)
Check out this apartment: 24 square meters of living space on the 5th floor in the Born district of Barcelona, Spain.
A Tiny Apartment Transforms into 24 Rooms
In Hong Kong, because of the space, apartments are small and expensive. Gary Chang, an architect, decided to design a 344 sq. ft. apartment to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls. He calls this the “Domestic Transformer.”
This one is definitely for the bachelor lifestyle.
Every Inch Counts Apartment
Check out what this person (Heidi) did with her 523 square foot Chicago, IL apartment. Not only is the apartment awesome, but the design displays the owner’s personality very well. The patterns on the ceiling, hardwood floors, analogous color choices and contrasting wall colors, track lighting and choice of decorations really give this place a luxurious hotel feel.
The office nook makes great use of cabinetry without clutter and also achieves a sense of exclusivity for a place to get work done. The decorative pillows on the bed make a good accent color for the bedroom, but as a guy I could never be bothered with such inconveniences regardless of the effect. Note the glass carafe on the glass side table and leather book tote below as minor necessities. I also like the large mirror that reflects the light and view from the balcony. Her bathroom is also superb in a no-nonsense, uncluttered, and fully stocked way.
If you love the colors, here they are:
Benjamin Moore - Bittersweet Chocolate 2214-10 (the dark brown)
Benjamin Moore - Smokey Taupe 983
Martha Stewart at Home Depot - Vermillion MSL054 (the red in the office nook)
Benjamin Moore - Chelsea Gray HC-168 (in the bathroom)
